Juniper Berry Folk Lore
History and folklore concerning the juniper tree is long reaching. The first recorded mention of juniper was discovered in an Egyptian papyrus dating back to1500 B.C.E. Juniper was the symbol of the Canaanites fertility goddess Ashera and in western European folklore they say that when juniper tree is planted by the door to your home, a witch cannot enter. Juniper incense has also been used by the Scottish to ward off the evil eye, and by the Tibetans to remove demons.
Juniper berries are loaded with minerals and vitamins including: copper, calcium, iron, zinc, limonene, phosphorous, magnesium, chromium, potassium, and selenium, vitamins B (B1, B2, and B3) and C. They also have a rich content of phytochemicals and essential oils, rich in antioxidants. source
